Microsoft has whacked a new 11th Gen Intel chip in the Surface Laptop Go 2, and you’ll find this improves both performance and battery. The most noticeable change from the outside is a new Sage green colour options. It is Microsoft though and, as such, there aren’t many upgrades. The original 12-inch laptop received plenty of acclaim, so it’s no surprise Microsoft chose to release a follow-up. Good looks and decent performance combine with the value proposition to make this a strong option for those on a budget or student buyers. Its pint-sized form factor makes it delightfully portable, and it all comes in an affordable package. I thought the Surface Laptop Go was great. But with the $599.99/£529 starting price undercutting the vast majority of Windows laptops, the Surface Laptop Go 2 still represents jaw-dropping value. That said, Microsoft has scrapped the base configuration, so you can no longer purchase a model with 64GB of eMMC storage. Microsoft has at least fitted it with a new 11th Generation Intel Core processor to boost the performance and battery life, but this is otherwise the exact same laptop as before.

But in typical Microsoft fashion, there aren’t many significant upgrades here, opting to retain the exact same clamshell design – just with a new Sage colour option.
